POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for spearheading the annual growth of chapter 

revenues by identifying, cultivating and soliciting donor prospects for leadership gifts ($500-    

$10,000); major gifts ($10,000 and greater); planned gifts (particularly bequests); corporate gifts;

and foundation grants of $1,000 and greater.  The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for  

prospect research, database entry, and stewardship of major ($10,000+) donors in support of the  

primary goal of raising major gifts from individuals, corporations, and philanthropic foundations.

 

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.      Assist the CEO with the preparation of the annual development plan and budget, with specific emphasis on measurable goals and revenue targets for major individual, corporate, foundation and planned gifts.

2.      Establish a major gifts development strategy and specific plans for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individual donors and philanthropic foundations.

3.      Manage and grow the chapter’s Legacy of Wishes Society (bequest program).

4.      Establish a corporate giving strategy and annual plan for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding corporate prospects for event and wish sponsorship gifts.

5.      Manage a prospect portfolio of approximately 125 donors and donor prospects.

6.      Plan, coordinate and execute assigned fundraising efforts that focus on capital and annual gifts from individuals, companies and philanthropic foundations, with a goal of generating $300,000 to $500,000 in new gift commitments annually.

7.      Conduct prospect research in support of the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts from individuals and corporations, and of major grants from philanthropic foundations.

8.      Maintain major gift prospect and donor records in the Raiser’s Edge donor database program.

9.      Assist the CEO and Development Team with improving and expanding the chapter’s donor stewardship program.

10.  Serve as the primary staff liaison on the Board’s Resource Development Committee, and work with the RDC Chair in setting committee meeting agendas and directives. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Ø  Bachelor’s Degree or higher, preferably in nonprofit management or fundraising.

 

Experience:

Ø  Minimum three to five years experience in professional fundraising, especially in major and planned giving.           

Ø  Established contacts and familiarity with the Capital Region philanthropic community preferred.

Ø  An established (i.e., documented) track record of successful cultivation and solicitation of major gifts.
